Social media portals have provided a platform that makes it easy and fun for folk to connect with others who share their interests. A serious amount of personal interaction is done online today, and these types of websites have helped bring folk closer together in ways that email and phone calls alone could never do.

Now, with the clicking of a button, folks can inform big amounts of folk about vital things that are occuring in their lives, such as an engagement or the birth of a baby. Folks also use social marketing sites to let others know about less pressing matters in their lives too such as the loss of their cell phone contacts or their menu for the day.

Social networking allows people to remain in contact with kin who live in different cities. College students, sibling in different states and countries and family members who are just on vacation for a few weeks can all find worth in being a member of different social media portals. Grandparents who can't visit as often can feel straight away nearer to the remainder of the family when they view streaming video and photos of a grandchild's first birthday party through social media portals. Distant relatives can stay in touch more frequently than they routinely would without the simplicity of being connected in a web network. Folks also use these sites to increase their networks of mates. Increasingly, people meet and become close to people with whom they share common friends.

While in real life, they might be hesitant to reach out to these folks, the friendly nature of social media makes it quick and easy to become a part of new person's life and get to know them thru the things they share through the site. Social media portals can also play a big role in helping people achieve tasks and get collaborative projects done. Brides can instantly get input on dresses from members of her marriage party who live in other towns.

Social media has also, to a certain level, eliminated the necessity for set'meeting' times because every person can add to the conversation at their own pace. High school reunions can be brainstormed all hours of the day and night, as alumni in different towns and states jot down their ideas and proposals when they have free time.
