The Transformers Devastator character is just one of the many fictional characters in this popular comic by Marvel. This character is able to come about when many Constructicons combine their bodies together into one single being. There are six Transformers included in the Constructicons; Scrapper, Hook, Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Long Haul, and Mixmaster. Each member of this group is able to turn into some form of construction equipment and when they combine as one, they are utterly brutal.
Devastator's sole purpose for creation is to destroy all that cross his path. The thoughts and actions of this gigantic Transformer can only go as far as the six Constructicons will let it. Thoughts and actions have a limit, because Devastator can only perform tasks that all six Constructicons agree on, the same goes for thoughts. Having six Transformers that make up Devastator can be both a positive and a negative attribute.
It is positive in the sense that there is one more Transformer to provide strength to the group. On the other hand, there is one more mind to get swayed in another direction or to try and convince that a plan should take effect.
The Decepticons were always known as the antagonists of the group, between themselves and the Autobots. The Autobots were of a nicer nature and regarded humans as something that needed protection, but could be trusted as well.
The Decepticons have no regard for human life and basically think of them as pests. The Autobots are kinder and are concerned with protecting those who need it. The animated series portrayed Megatron as being the inventor of Devastator, while Marvel comics depicted it as Shockwave. In the comic book, Shockwave arranged for the Constructicons to be built, but their combination power was provided by Optimus Prime's head while he was imprisoned.
No one knew in the beginning that they could combine to form Devastator, until the Autobots tried to interfere. While the Constructicons were building a huge dish for radio transmissions between Soundwave and Cybertron, the Autobots tried to stop the message from being sent. This interference triggered the Constructicons to form Devastator. The Autobots thought this was fantastic and wanted to create their own super-Autobot.
They were able to come up with Aerialbots, which were aircrafts that combined to form Superion. The main difference found between the Transformers Devastator and Superion was that one wanted to destroy all in sight and the other wanted to conquer, but protect as well. The Autobots and Decepticons will always be fighting against one another in comics and cartoons, for the justice they feel their particular group deserves.
