When you think about Christmas do you think about being with family and friends? Me too! Christmas is a time in our house when we get all cozy together and spend time doing the things we like to do, like watching fun movies.

Young and old alike enjoy watching funny, magical, and touching Christmas movies. That's why we've put together a list of some of our favorite movies that are suitable for all ages. I know that our Christmas season would not be complete without watching at least a couple of these movies.

A Christmas Story (1983) Set in a 1940s middle-America family's Christmas celebration, this movie is loaded with laughs. Ralphie is growing up in a house with a cranky father, understanding (sometimes) mother, and whiny brother. He has an aunt who gives him pink bunny pajamas forgetting perhaps that he's a growing boy who will get beat up if he wears them. All he really wants in the whole world for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. But, anytime he slips and tells someone about the BB gun, he's told in no uncertain terms "you'll shoot your eye out!" Even Santa is against him! In between bullies, triple-dog-dares, daydreaming about getting an A+++++ on his school work, and fighting marauders, Ralphie's days are full. If only he could convince someone of his need for the Red Ryder BB gun, life would be good.

Elf (2003) Outstanding performances by Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Bob Newhart make this movie not only funny, but well done. Why a six foot tall elf? Well, when a little baby in an orphanage stows away on Santa's sleigh, what else can you expect. The baby, Buddy, grows up at the North Pole and realizes that he's different. Buddy asks about his real father and is told that he lives in New York City, and that he is on the Naughty List, so Buddy sets out to find him and help him get on the Nice List. Now, a six foot tall Elf is on the loose in New York City! Buddy's father doesn't love Christmas the way Buddy does... well NOBODY loves Christmas the way Buddy does, so he will just have to change their mind.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) This movie is a Must See Movie. James Stewart and Donna Reed shine in this delightful and timeless story of a family's love and strength during good times and bad. Sacrificing his youthful dreams to support his family and his small town, George Bailey settles into a life he didn't intend. When his hopes for a good life are almost shattered by an evil manipulator, he is sent a guardian angel who's arrived fresh from Heaven to earn his wings. George learns, with the help of a little magic by his angel, that all is not lost when you live a good life with a good family and lots of wonderful friends. And, when all is said and done, that's what really matters.

The Santa Clause (1994) Charlie is a boy with an imagination, but his imagination could get him in trouble with his Mom and her psychiatrist husband. Charlie's Dad, Scott, is trying hard to let his son's imagination run wild, but stories about going to the North Pole with Santa are a stretch. The problem is Charlie was at the North Pole with his Dad, but his Dad denies it. He even believes that his own memories of the night are a dream and his new "SC" monogrammed pj's stand for Scott Calvin and not Santa Claus. What Scott is unwilling to believe for a long time is that he signed on with the Santa "clause" when the first Santa fell off his roof! After the initial shock wears off, Scott is more than willing to show his son a proper Christmas Eve. When you see the end of this movie, you'll be a believer, too!

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) Can The Muppets even make a bad movie? Not in my book! With The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens and Michael Caine (in the flesh!) playing Ebeneezer Scrooge, you just can't miss. This movie takes a lighthearted, humorous, and musical approach as a way of bringing this classic bit of literature to the younger set without being too scary or dramatic. Cleverly done and creative, but, then again, it's The Muppets... would you expect anything less?

Make a date with your family this Christmas and enjoy a few of these movie selections. Grab a snack, a blanket, and your loved ones and spend time together having a few laughs at the movies. Enjoy!
