Essentially, a person who has the ability to demonstrate clairvoyance powers is deemed to be a clairvoyant. In some cases people will refer to these powers as being extrasensory perception or sixth sense. Interestingly enough, clairvoyance can be traced back as far as the eighteenth century, and as you may well already know, historical literature for is full of stories concerning profits and seers. In fact, these people were held in high regard by society who at that time believed immensely in prophecies. Even powerful world leaders regularly sought advice from a clairvoyant before taking specific action in many circumstances.

Derived from the French language, clairvoyant literally means to have a clear vision. Even so, clairvoyance can have several meanings as such, considering that while some clairvoyants may have a vision, others may hear messages, interpret signs, or listen to an inner voice.

Anyone practicing clairvoyance is known as a clairvoyant but of course such people can vary dramatically in terms of the skill they possess. Even so, the majority of them are able to see into the future and as such they can provide people with an opportunity to see what is still yet to come. In fact, those which are highly skilled can often see events which took place in the past, while some even have the ability to move beyond the realms of the living, and in so doing, they are able to communicate with the dead.

Many people believe that everyone possesses such powers when we are born, but due to the way in which we are brought up, such powers don't fit in with what's considered to be the normal way of life, and so it ends up being that not many people are able to develop their ability to its full potential. It's hardly surprising then that the vast majority, who do manage to develop the skills, are in fact children of clairvoyant parents who in turn have invested an adequate amount of time in order to teach the skills to their offspring.

Study generally begins with meditation. With meditation, users can release the stress and negativity from their mind, leaving them open to the signals or messages being sent to the by the Universe. Clairvoyants should set aside at least thirty minutes a day in a safe, calm atmosphere to practice meditation. Many clairvoyants enjoy meditating outdoors in order to better commune with the Universe.

Those people who are learning how to develop their skills are always taught that they should never attempt to force clairvoyance, but rather to have an open mind so that it can come of its own accord. To a great extent, this scenario could be compared to a person misplacing their keys. In most cases, it is only once you have calmed down that you find your keys.

As their powers begin to develop many then begin to include several other methods of clairvoyance, such as reading palms, interpreting Tarrot cards, or reading tea leaves. The main reason for doing this is that it can help them understand the messages they receive.

You need to bear in mind that the more your skills develop the more you'll end up relying on your instincts, and as such, they become an integral part of your powers. This instinct which is often referred to as the 'inner eye' is perhaps one of the most powerful tools a clairvoyant has at their disposal. In fact, many people have an inner eye which manifests itself by giving us what some refer to as a 'gut feeling'. Most people have at some point instinctively known that something bad or good was about to happen. However, unlike clairvoyants, average people pay no attention to such feelings, let alone embrace them, and it's only by embracing them that it becomes possible to develop clairvoyance.

Essentially, your ability to receive messages from the universe depends largely on your attitude and also the environment you live in. If you live in a state of chaos and disruption, and your life it's full of negativity, it becomes virtually impossible to clear your mind sufficiently enough. On the other hand, a clairvoyant will always strive to have a calm environment, which is why many of them practice Feng Shui in order to optimize the flow of energy through their homes.

You'll also find that practically all clairvoyants make use of aromatherapy, and even crystals, in order to rid their environment of negative energy. Furthermore, most clairvoyants also practice yoga in order to achieve a calm and peaceful spirit so that they can unlock the power within. While this may be sufficient enough for some, others also make use of hypnosis in order to read the mind and body of negativity completely.

Interestingly enough, clairvoyants are not mystical people who hide away from society, but instead, they can follow several paths with regards to their line of work. In fact, clairvoyants are often called upon by law enforcement agencies in order to provide assistance in solving crimes and to help find missing people. Likewise, many have used their skills and powers in order to establish a career, such as by writing books, appearing in television documentaries, and making predictions in magazine columns. Alternatively, some clairvoyants earn their living by offering readings, either in person, over the phone, or via the Internet.
