Serious subjects and romance don't go together in our house, or in most homes from what I'm hearing people say. Couples that laugh together are happy, and happy couples tend to get sort of cozy, if you know what I'm talking about.

When date night is movie night in our house, I'm pretty sure I know what my husband would NOT want to be forced to watch. Think of the most intrique love stories you've ever seen or heard about, those heart-tugging, tear-jerking movies that leave you surrounded by crumpled tissues. If you've considered watching any of these movies on date night, let me give you a heads up... don't. Here are four Please-Don't-Do-That-To-Him Movies.

1) The Notebook - Love found, love lost, love found again. Sounds nice, right? Guess what... they die. Worse yet, he loves her like no other and she has no clue who he is anymore. She has alzheimers which comes and goes, and it's horrendously sad. You'll love it, he'll curl up in a ball. So, there goes your happy night!

2) Closer - Exotic dancer falls for man who sees her hit by a car, and he rather likes her a great deal, but not quite as much as she likes him. Oh boy. Man meets another beautiful woman, out goes a very sad stripper, and woman number two gets married to someone else. That doesn't stop the man and woman from "celebrating their love" now and again, so it just gets depressing for the average couple who just wants to have a nice date night, you know?

3) A Walk To Remember - The trailers make it look sort of cute, a romp through true love. But, what with the tragic event and everything, it's not a movie that you're man is going to want to watch over and over... or even once. No laughs here.

4) The Bridges Of Madison County - Don't even think about it. You are so far from funny here you can't even imagine. Ladies, if you've seen this movie and think that it might be a nice choice for date night, you've totally forgotten what the movie was about. Watch this again with your gal-pals and enjoy the moment when you know what's going to happen. Then join in the shouting and the cursing at the unfairness of it all. Discuss with your girlfriends the true meaning of marriage, and cover the same ground over and over again if you must. By, by no means watch this with your man. He may never laugh again.

Sweet moments in the movies aren't banned from romantic date night choices, they just have to be tempered a bit with humor. If your man gets a little uncomfortable after a long, sappy scene, he's going to need to relax with a belly laugh, or even just a chuckle, before the movie is over. There is such a thing as a nice blend of romance and comedy. Let's see if any of these four Have-A-Laugh-Even-As-You-Feel-Your-Heart-Being-Tugged movies can bring a smile to both your faces.

1) Dan In Real Life - Okay, Steve Carell could make anyone laugh. His demeanor is so much like most regular family guys, that he's recognizable in many homes. The movie is a cool family romp, but has plenty of real guy laughs. See, there's this guy who lost his wife (not dwelled on) and hasn't dated for a while, meets a beautiful woman quite by accident on his way to a family gathering, gets very interested, then meets his brother's girlfriend at the family gathering, and, guess what... same woman. It gets funny, complicated, slap stick, and all the good things that movies should do to keep our, and more importantly, our man's interest. Pretty girlfriend doesn't hurt, either. Face it, ladies.

2) The Holiday - The premise is that two lovely women, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, do a Holiday house switch to get the heck away from love-gone-wrong. Learning to live in totally different worlds, they start to fall into all sorts of situations, which of course involve romance. Jude Law and Jack Black are great love-interests, that provide lots of smiles and enough sexy co-mingling to keep your man's interest. You are even treated to a Hollywood star played by Eli Wallach, who has been forgotten, but gets reacquainted with the world with the help of Kate Winslet. This storyline is very touching, but also funny. The characters will make you laugh and will tug at your heartstrings a bit. Your man should be feeling all warm and cozy after this movie!

3) Hitch - This movie features a very cool, collected Will Smith. But, a guy with a heart of gold. He truly wants to help his clients find true love. It's just that his career as a matchmaker seems a bit cold or callus, especially to the woman he's trying to impress. His mission, and job, is to get men past the first date, hopefully to the third and on to marriage. He just can't seem to take his own advice. Lots of laughs and some honest-to-goodness real heartfelt sincerity when it all comes down to it. But, don't worry, there's enough off the wall behavior that will keep your man chuckling.

4) Click - Adam Sandler and Kate Beckinsale live the kind of family life that many of us do... bizarre and crazy most of the time. So, what happens when Christopher Walken hands Adam Sandler a remote control that controls life? Wouldn't you like to mute the kids, the dogs, and the boss once in a while? How about rewind and change whatever it was that you said that started that fight with your spouse? Or fast-forward to get through that family dinner that's driving you crazy? Wouldn't life be good? The comedy is hilarious, and the situations that this family goes through are so recognizable you can't help but grin. Good silly stuff, and lots of nice family stuff, too. You and your man will both enjoy this movie for the same reason... you'll be glad it's not you!

Romance and laughter go together. Life is no bed of roses, so when you can share a smile with the man you love, it sure sets the stage for some romantic warm and cozy moments. These are the moments to create tonight with a movie your man will love!
