Over the years people have gone back and forth with various jewelry styles. Maybe there were a few years when yellow gold was in; platinum was the popular fad, or silver just popped onto the seen. However, in today's market it's the white gold pendants that are getting all of the attention.

Whatever the reasoning behind your purchase, make sure you get it from a reputable jeweler. It's actually hard to tell the difference between silver and white gold, but you'll be able to figure it out in the price. White gold pendants are much more expensive than silver.

If you want to know the difference between yellow and white gold, it involves the dipping of the alloys. All 18 karat gold is 75% pure, and when it comes to white gold, the alloys are mixed with 18 karat gold. If you take a close look at yellow gold, alloy metals are mixed with copper and zinc. White gold on the other hand is made with a combination of silver and palladium. Even more so, white gold is coated with rhodium, which is almost like platinum.

Normally, white gold is a little more expensive than yellow gold, and because the rhodium is very white and very hard, white gold pendants are typically a little stronger, which is why they are more popular, in general. While most people will choose 18 karat gold, white or yellow for engagement rings, they might be able to choose 9 or 14 karat gold, when it comes to white gold pendants, dress jewelry and earrings, because it is cheaper.

You will know when you first see white gold because it's shiny and white. It signifies purification, and many parents buy them for their children. In order to get this beautiful appeal and keep it, there needs to maintenance about once a year. All you need to do is get the rhodium re-plated and everything will be as good as new.

Because white gold is cheaper than platinum, white gold is often chosen for jewelry, since it looks very similar and appears more expensive than yellow gold. Of course, it is not that more expensive than yellow gold, so many people prefer white gold pendants over yellow gold pendants.

You will also notice that the stones will be highlighted in the white gold pendants. The reflective quality brings one of purity, which of course many women enjoy. Even brand new, the yellow gold will have a duller reflection when you put the two of them together. Obviously there are still going to be people out there who go with the traditional yellow gold for engagement rings, but platinum is definitely the new style.

What it comes down to is according to the price, the style, the appeal, and the durability, there isn't anything that compares to it. We know you'll know exactly what we're talking about the first time you see them as well.
