Las Vegas is a fantastic city for an exciting, memorable vacation. There is no question that you will want to stay in one of the best Las Vegas hotels you can afford and one that takes the smallest chunk out of your casino funds. We're here to tell you it's possible to stay in a great Vegas hotel and still have money left over for other things.

A vacation in Vegas should be one filled with glitz and glamour, comfort and ambience. After all, this spectacular city has 15 of the largest hotels in the world. If you've ever been there, you know the impact the strip has on you the first time.

The first time I visited Vegas, I decided to go all out. I stayed at the MGM Grand, one of the biggest hotels in the city. It's everything people say it is. But the bigness of it actually bothered me. It took so much time just getting places. I got tired of all the time it took to get my car, for example. I know I could have used valet service, but I like to get my exercise so I can justify eating in style too!

Most people don't realize that it isn't necessary to stay on the strip to stay at one of the best Las Vegas hotels. Many of the classic hotel casinos you see in the movies, like The Golden Nugget, Fitzgerald's and The Four Queens are located on Fremont Street. They are some of the most comfortable and affordable hotels in Vegas.

Sometimes we like to get even further away from the nightlife where things are quieter. The Green Valley Ranch is one of those places that are actually located in downtown Las Vegas. There are several others and all are luxurious and comfortable. Most people think they're experience won't be complete unless the stay on the strip. But I'm here to tell you that that is a myth.

What makes the best Las Vegas hotels so much fun is that they each have their own theme. There is the Hard Rock Casino with a clever rock-and-roll theme, Treasure Island where you'll find pirate ships, Paris with a replica of the Eiffel Tower, the Venetian with real gondolas that will actually take you for a spin and my favorite New York, New York. In front of the hotel you will be treated to a fantastic facsimile of the New York skyline.

There are always special deals available no matter what time of year it is. It's just a matter of knowing where to find them. If you're going to Vegas on the spur of the moment and you will want to check to see if there have been any last-minute cancellations you can take advantage of. Otherwise, it is always best to plan well in advance so you have time to shop and compare the room rates.

The best Las Vegas hotels offer a wide assortment of package deals and specials. You'll find ones that include tickets to a show or a free meal to help entice you into staying at their hotel. This works to your advantage. If you're booking a flight, look for a flight/hotel combo package. The best way of all to have your vacation paid for is to win big at the tables, but unfortunately, all of the great tips I have on how to do that will have to wait for another time. Sorry!
